Wensleydale 40s Weekend ( Return to Diary Page )
The villages of Leeming Bar, Bedale, Finghall, Leyburn and Redmire in conjuntion with Combined Ops of Sheffield created the second of their Wensleydale Railway War weekend's called 'Operation Dalesman'. Members of the Durham Tees Valley MVT and the Noth East Military Vehicle Club supported the event at both Redmire and Leyburn stations along with regular road visits to the villages. The weekend was to designd to allow visitors to see troops, vehicles and equipment of the British, Commonwelth, American and free European forces. There were lots of civilians dressed in period costume travelling the railway and a single decker vintage bus transported people too and from the different stations to the villages. The weather for once was in our favour and lots of people attended, particularly on the Sunday. At Leyburn station people were entertained by two excellent banjo playing singers while a church parade was held in the village. Talking to the Leyburn village organiser he was very pleased with the response for the weekend and was already beginning to plan additions to next years event, we will be there again next year.
