Durham Nostalgia Weekend ( Return to Diary Page )

The plan was to occupy the centre of the town around the main statue and directly in front of the town hall with vehicles and dioramas to create an area of interest. This proved to be very successful as the area was filled with people for the entire day. There were three musical interludes provided by the Fenner Sisters who did a sterling job of entertaining large crowds of appreciative public. This seemed to promote an excellent financial response for the nominated Gurker charities we were supporting this weekend. The Fashion shows and dedication to the forces also drew a large attendance, they took place in the town hall itself and was a seated affair though standing room was also at capacity. Both sessions were well received and all credit to the models and back stage dressers who worked hard keeping the continuity of the programme. There was a temporary cessation of activities during the early afternoon while a wedding took place in the church adjacent to the displays much to the delight of the gathered people who were treated to site of the Bride and Groom and their wedding party departing in an open topped car. Reports from the Mayor and his event organising team is more of the same for next year please.
